We're pleased to announce the 26th Young Artists Debut! Van Buren Competition which promotes the performance of classical music by young people in our region.

 

Today through November 30, we are asking young classical instrumentalists and vocalists between the ages of 10-18 (21 for vocalists) to apply!

 

Winners receive months of intensive coaching by Niel DePonte, MetroArts Inc. Executive Artistic Director & Conductor, Oregon Ballet Theatre Conductor, and Oregon Symphony Principal Percussionist. Winners also receive honoraria, serve as community ambassadors, and become a part of the MetroArts Inc. family.

 

The experience culminates when each artist makes their debut, accompanied by members of the Oregon Symphony and Oregon Ballet Theatre orchestras, at the Young Artists Debut! Van Buren Concerto Concert on Friday, April 17, 2020, at First United Methodist Church.

Apply by November 30, 2019 by completing the following steps:

  1. Text your "Intent to Apply" with your name, age, instrument, and email address to 503-245-4885 as soon as possible, but no later than 11/30 at 10 a.m.

  2. Complete and submit the application here.

  3. Email your biography and YouTube link to your performance to admin@metroartsinc.org

  4. Pay the $50 application using the PayPal link here.

Hear legends in the making!   Mark your calendar to join us Friday, April 17, 2020, at First United Methodist Church, 7:30 p.m.

     Imagine you'd had the chance to experience musical prodigies like illustrious composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, celebrated violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, and renowned opera singer Leontyne Price perform before they became legends.

     On Friday, April 5, you'll have the opportunity to hear eight breathtaking young classical musicians showcase their talents alongside members of the Oregon Symphony and Oregon Ballet Theatre orchestras at the 25th Young Artists Debut! Van Buren Concerto Concert. 

Starting this past November, these extraordinary instrumentalists and vocalists distinguished themselves from a group of over 20 semi-finalists through a series of rigorous auditions for the chance to appear at this unique annual concert dedicated to promoting the performance of classical music by young people in our region.

     Past performers have gone on to win international recognition and perform with some of the most prestigious symphonies and opera companies around the world.
