The summer of 2010 marked the debut of a new comprehensive program of training for outstanding young musicians in the Northwest. The Portland Summer Ensembles program is a 13-day series of classes and performances in both chamber music, orchestral string playing and piano solo and chamber music training led by some of the region’s finest musical artists. Comprised of two sessions, one focusing on chamber music and the other on orchestral and solo playing, students enjoyed learning from artist teachers and coaches who occupy principal chairs of the Oregon Symphony or perform with major chamber ensembles in the Northwest. All of this took place on the beautiful Marylhurst University campus, located 10 minutes from downtown Portland, Oregon.

How to Apply

The program is designed for student musicians at the intermediate to advanced level of training, ages 10-18. Admission is by DVD/CD (DVD preferred), which should include two contrasting pieces that display the student’s artistic and technical ability, plus a written application and teacher recommendation.
